Lighting

Every new scene has a default Environmental Light - the properties can be adjusted. Add additional lights to achieve the desired lighting effect. Adjust the properties of each light in the Inspector tab.

Lighting Tips:

  • Create special effects by adding multiple lights of various colors.

  • Cast shadows with only one light - turn off 'Cast shadows' for other lights.

  • Increase the 'Radius' to soften edges of shadows.

  • Set Environmental Light to grey colors to increase contrast.

  • Highlight the edge of an object using a back light.

  • Create even lighting from all angles.

Basic 3 Point Lighting

The three main light sources for any 3-point lighting setup include a key light, a fill light, and a back light. These three light sources can vary in terms of angle, intensity and even color, but the principle use for each of these three lights remains the same.

Directional Light

The Directional Light emits parallel rays that wash an object as if the source is a distant one - like the sun. It strikes every element in a scene with equal intensity, from the same direction. Adjust light properties in the Inspector tab to control light color, intensity, and radius. Toggle Shadows to adjust shadow softness, bias and cascades.

Point Light

The Point Light sends out light in all directions. Point lights can be used to simulate the light emitted by a lamp or incandescent bulb. Adjust light properties in the Inspector tab to control light color, intensity, and radius. Toggle Shadows to adjust shadow softness and bias.

Spot Light

The Spot Light produces a cone of light in a single direction; with the light getting more intense closer to the source and to the center of the cone. Adjust light settings in the Inspector tab to control the light position and rotation, color, intensity, cone angle, and radius. Toggle Cast Shadows to adjust shadow softness and bias.
